Making of TFT monitor
Creating a cool TFT monitor in 3DS Max is no problem with this tutorial.

1) First of all we are going to create the front side of the monitor (desktop). Make 4:3 ratio like this below:

Image

2) Convert object to editable mesh and select all the outside edges. Hold shift and drag  them just a little bit to the front.

Image

3) Now select all polygons of “desktop”, go down to Edit Geometry and detach them.

4) We are now done with “desktop”. Again select outside edges, drag them to front and scale them a little. You should get something like this.

Image

5) Select one by one side edges and drag them as shown below.

Image

6) Picture below says everything: drag and weld, Do this with the rest of the 3 corners.

Image

7) Drag the outside edges back a couple of times.

Image

8) Select one of the sides of mesh and delete it.

Image

9) With selected object go to mirror and check x axis and instance.

Image

10) Do same thing like below.

Image

11) Select entire element and go down to smoothing groups and click on Auto Smooth or deselect yellow number of  smoothing group.

Image

12) Go to one of the upper corners and chamfer edges a couple of times, like this.

Image

13) Now select these polygons and extrude them down a little. Make sure that you check local option.

After that attach these two symmetrical objects and weld all vertex  that impact.

Image

14) We are now going to create menu buttons. To do that create this rounded corners rectangle shape.

Image

15) Add Shell modifier to it and place it like this.

Image

16) Copy monitor frame and new object and make sure that you don’t move them. First select one of the monitor frame and go to create panel, choose Compound Objects from droping menu. Select Boolean and activate pick operand B, pick rounded box object, make sure that you check Subtraction A-B.

After that repeat  all processes with copied object, but only this time select Intersection option in Boolean and shrink it a little bit.

17) When that is done make these five boxes and space them equally. Make sure that you have 3 height segments.

Image

18) Convert them to editable mesh and attach them all. Weld vertex as it is shown below.

Image

19) Repeat Boolean step. Now add shell modifier to the new objects. You should get something like this.

Image

20) Create chamfered cylinder like this.

Image

21) In top view place vertex  like this.

Image

22) With a little work and you should get something like this.

Image

23) Now create the rest of the monitor and cables to complete the picture.

Image

24) Create scene setup and four lights. Set multiplier of first 3 lights to 2.5, and fourth to 5. Uncheck invisible.

25) Gray plastic material

26) Black plastic material

27) Cable material

28) For “desktop”  material use any print screen from your computer with 15 black reflection. Play with textures what ever you like.

For render use this basic settings.
